Ten years ago, my brother slammed a door in my face, chipping one of my two front teeth. I got the tooth capsized, and I thought that was the end of it. On Friday, my tooth started to hurt really badly, so my mom took me to the dentist. An x-ray of teeth were taken, and the dentist told me my tooth was dying and starting to turn brown. The dentist referred me to another dentist with more experience, and so me and mom drove out to the second dentist. The new dentist told me that a process known as resorption is occurring. Since my tooth was chipped so young, it never got to fully form into an adult tooth. My body is attacking my tooth as a foreign material, and my tooth is decaying as a result. The dentist told me I could either: try and save the tooth via root canal surgery or pull the tooth and replace it was a fake one. I chose the former of the two, like the dentist suggested. My dentist numbed my tooth so it would stop hurting for a bit; it felt kind of weird, like I just got punched in the face. She also put some medicine in my tooth, to try and stop my tooth from decaying. She told us that I can get the tooth whitened at any time, so the brown color doesn’t appear. After that, she scheduled the root canal surgery and the post-root canal surgery. She told us that I have to get the tooth filled at my regular dentist after the surgery. Then she gave me a pack of pain killers, and a prescription to some antibotics (which I take three times a day) and vicodin es (only as a last resort if I’m in a lot of pain.) We said thank you and went home.
I’m not bothered by this too much. As long as I’m still breathing, it’ll all go fine. My tooth doesn’t hurt anymore, by the way.
